On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat, presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, organized a capacity-building workshop for teachers involved in the fifth edition of the educational program “I Draw My Heritage.”
Hosted at the Bab Lakbir exhibition space within the historic Qasba of the Oudaia, this year’s edition focuses on the theme “Rabat and Its Gates: When Time Speaks Through Stone.” The initiative took place in celebration of the International Day for Monuments and Sites, observed every year on April 18, and is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the bond between youth and their city’s heritage;Rabat, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The workshop brought together 50 teachers and school principals from various primary schools across Rabat. Participants embarked on a unique artistic and exploratory journey, beginning with a practical art session and concluding with a guided field visit to the gates of the Qasba of the Oudaia. Under the guidance of heritage and architecture experts, the teachers explored the architectural and aesthetic characteristics of these gates and uncovered their historical symbolism and functions.
As part of the workshop, the teachers had the opportunity to express their personal interpretations of these urban landmarks through creative paintings, reflecting both their emotional and intellectual connection to the city’s heritage.
This immersive experience combined interactive learning, research, exploration, and artistic expression. It also enabled participants to integrate heritage into educational processes through cultural and artistic education.
