Under the presidency of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, the Foundation for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage of Rabat, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and UNESCO, organized a capacity-building workshop for teachers from Meknes and Moulay Idriss. This workshop is part of the “I Discover My Heritage” program, which aims to raise awareness and enrich the transmission of cultural heritage to younger generations.
Held on February 11, 2025, the workshop brought together over 40 teachers and school principals from Meknes and Moulay Idriss Zerhoun for a program that combined theoretical and practical approaches. Its objective was to familiarize participants with a locally adapted educational kit, inspired by UNESCO’s World Heritage in Young Hands Kit.
Designed to raise awareness of both national and world heritage, this structured educational kit provides a detailed session-by-session curriculum, facilitating the program’s implementation. It includes classroom and field activity sheets, allowing for a progressive and interactive exploration of heritage.
This kit stands out for its immersive visual approach: maps and illustrations, created by students from the National School of Architecture of Rabat, enrich the content, providing a fun and educational resource that enhances the understanding of heritage concepts.
The workshop featured a presentation on the Foundation, its mission, and its initiatives, with a special focus on the “I Discover My Heritage” program. A documentary video retracing the various phases of its implementation and showcasing the participants’ work allowed teachers to fully grasp the impact of heritage appropriation by students. The event also included an in-depth presentation on cultural heritage and its various forms, broadening discussions on its transmission.
As part of the practical workshops, teachers participated in two interactive sessions:
- The first workshop, led by the program’s committee, focused on the presentation of the educational kit and the methods for implementing its activities, equipping teachers with the necessary tools for interactive heritage transmission.
-
The second workshop focused on portrait creation, a category in which teachers will guide their students in preparation for their participation in the second edition of the magazine “Roya…”. This flagship publication of the program serves as a genuine platform for young participants, allowing them to share their vision of heritage through various creative categories.
