The Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa in partnership with ICOMOS MOROCCO (International Council on Monuments and Sites) and the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF) of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra organized the “I draw my Heritage ” initiative closing ceremonyat the Center for Artistic and Cultural Development in Rabat. Certificates of completion were awarded to all 400 pupils attending and drawing kits were awarded to the 50 art contest winners.
The “I draw my heritage ” grassroots initiative seeks to raise awareness of the historic significance of the city of Rabat among children aged 6 to 12 years through artistic creation. The initiative, held on occasion of annual International Day for Monuments and Sites celebrations on April 18, also included an art contest. An arts workshop took place in May to enhance artistic skills. Four hundred attending school children presented creations to reflect their vision of Rabat’s architectural and urban cultural heritage.
The initiative aims to instill the importance of understanding and safeguarding our heritage among Moroccoo’s youth. It also strives, with the help of teachers, to inspire imaginations and help schoolchildren discover their rich heritage. Schoolchildren conducted research on the components, monuments and sites of Rabat’s cultural heritage. Pupils’ artistic creations are to be exhibited at the Center for Artistic and Cultural Development in Rabat during the month of December and are accessible as a virtual exhibition on the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat’s website: fspcrabat.ma.
