President of the foundation for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage of Rabat

Le 14 février 2020, le Conseil d’Administration de la Fondation pour la Sauvegarde du Patrimoine Culturel de Rabat, présidé par Son Altesse Royale la Princesse Lalla Hasnaa, arrêtait un plan d’action très riche offrant aux acteurs du patrimoine culturel – institutionnels, société civile et experts – de multiples opportunités d’échanger les visions et de partager les savoirs. La volonté première de la Fondation étant de conjuguer la préservation du patrimoine culturel non au passé, mais au futur et toujours au pluriel.

Also in connection with this worldwide celebration of heritage, the Foundation and ICOMOS-Morocco organized, on April 29, a round table bringing together archaeologists, historians and specialists in heritage preservation in order to collect their recommendations in terms of safeguarding and highlighting of the Outstanding Universal Value of the Modern city of Rabat.

The recommendations were as follows:

Establish an exhaustive archaeological map of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region covering all its prehistoric and historical phases in order to face dangers threatening the archaeological heritage and to integrate the results into heritage protection texts and plans development.
Give particular importance to archaeological research and prospecting with the aim of better knowing and, thereby, better safeguarding the national historic heritage.
