A first in Morocco, UNESCO’s Kit adapted to Rabat’s heritage

On June 7, the Foundation for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage of Rabat, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, held a workshop, along with partners,  for Rabat middle school students under its “Discovering my Heritage ” program, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and UNESCO.

“Discovering my Heritage” is the first Moroccan program to adapt UNESCO’s kit to the heritage of Rabat, in its many representations.

The first edition of the program attracted 3720 students from 62 schools in Rabat, Salé and Témara, led by their teachers, to learn of Rabat’s cultural heritage by way of the Kit’s various activities: research, writing, analysis, observation and visits to 8 UNESCO World Heritage sites in the city: Almohad ramparts and gates, Qasba of the Oudaïa, the Medina, the Chellah archaeological site, the Habous district of Diour Jamaâ, the New City, the Experimental Botanical Gardens and the Hassan Mosque.

“Drawing my Heritage” to protect our climate

On June 8, the Foundation introduced schoolchildren to its annual “Drawing my Heritage” program for safeguarding the cultural heritage of Rabat, focusing this year on “Heritage and Climate”.

This program implemented by the Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports and ICOMOS Morocco, aims to raise awareness among schoolchildren through art.

This year, 600 children from 20 elementary schools took part in the program, painting the city’s landscape heritage: Nouzhat Hassan, the Botanical Gardens, the Chellah Garden, and the Andalusian Gardens at the Qasba of the Oudaïa.

An award ceremony took place on May 31, 2022, for 60 schoolchildren whose drawings were selected and exhibited at the Center for Regional Development of Education and Training.
